Foundation stone of the unique waterfowl and feather processing plant has been laid in Mélykút

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the new complex unit of Hunent Zrt. triggers the construction of a waterfowl slaughterhouse and feather processing plant in Mélykút. The investment project, worth some EUR 40 million, will create 350 new jobs in the food industry, which is one of the leading economic sectors in Hungary. This expansion of HUNENT is already the fourth food industry investment project this year to be completed with the support of the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).

Dating back to a history of more than 160 years through its legal predecessors, HUNENT Víziszárnyas Feldolgozó Zrt. has been present with its products in the past few years not only in Hungary but also in several EU Member States and the Far East; actually, exports account for 63% of the company's net turnover. The main profile of the company is the processing of ducks, but it also engages in the processing of geese.

The 8.8 ha site allocated for this greenfield investment project will accommodate a total built-in area of some 18,300 square metres. This extremely complex project will Iead to a production facility equipped with the most modern technology, including a new slaughterhouse hall with cutting, traying and packaging units, a feather processing plant, a wastewater treatment facility, an office building, a cold store with a storage capacity of 4 500 tonnes as well as a processing and roasting plant. The number of company employees will be more than tripled as a result of this investment project.

The waterflow slaughterhouse, processing plant, cold/deep-freezing store and wastewater treatment facility are expected to be constructed in the first phase by October 2018. The second phase is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.

The new facility will be unique in Europe, since there are only a few duck slaughterhouses and processing plants having a similar level of capacity and technological development. The new volume of 5 million ducks will increase the total output to 14 million ducks per year. The investment project will raise turnover above HUF 20 billion, increase the processed quantity and result in better quality and a wider range of products. As a result of the investment project, the company will be able to strengthen its market position and competitiveness despite the increased domestic and international competition.
