The foundation stone has been laid for an automotive electronic component manufacturing plant in Debrecen. The latest unit of Germany-based Continental will cover an area of 7,000 square metres as an expansion of the company group's Hungarian sites. Continental, as a top global automotive supplier, has made a greenfield investment of EUR 100 million in the establishment to create another 450 jobs with a view to intensifying the capacity that its 6 factories and the trade centre can currently offer in Hungary.

The BMW Group is expanding its manufacturing network in Europe, in the framework of which it will open a new plant in Hungary, near Debrecen. Through the investment of EUR 1 billion, the new factory will have a capacity for of 150,000 vehicles a year, in the meantime creating more than 1,000 new jobs. Quite understandably, references so far have been made to the Bavarian company as an "invisible factory", since only last year the components and services it procured from Hungarian suppliers totalled more than EUR 1.4 billion. The cooperation, however, is now taken to a higher level.


Foundation stone of the new plant of Krones in Debrecen was laid

The investment announced in October 2017 entered into the next phase: the foundation stone of the newest production unit, the first in Europe outside of Germany of Krones AG manufacturing beverage automats and bottling systems in Debrecen was laid. As a result of the more than EUR 49 million investment, 500 workplaces will be established over the upcoming years and production is planned to be launched in less than a year.

fDi Magazine, investment issue of the Financial Times Group with high prestige in investor circles, has published again its bi-yearly "European Cities and Regions of the Future", in which it gathers and ranks the most important investment locations of the Europe according to pre-defined criteria. It is a gladsome tendency that in addition to Budapest and the Central Hungary region that were selected to the latest edition, three other cities have been recommended to the focus of the investors as new players: Debrecen, Kecskemét and Székesfehérvár. As it can be concluded from the results, the Hungarian investment environment awaits new investors and re-investors alike with consistently high service standards.

USA-based National Instruments (NI) is going to expand its presence in Debrecen. The building of the new office block is necessary due to staff numbers growing as a result of simultaneous investments announced in October 2016. Building "D" is going to provide 250 employees with a high-quality workplace and is expected to be opened at the end of 2019. In the next two years, the corporation is planning developments worth more than HUF 6.1 billion, half of which being building-related investments.
