Driving Competitiveness Forward

"It makes no difference whether we are talking about small towns and small businesses or large cities and multinational corporations—the principles of economic development and investment promotion apply equally at every level," emphasized István Joó, Government Commissioner and CEO of the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA), during his speech at the inauguration of the second phase of the Báránd Industrial Park.
Since its establishment over a decade ago, HIPA has dedicated significant efforts to developing the eastern regions of Hungary, achieving notable successes in the Hajdú-Bihar region. Between 2014 and 2024, 129 investment projects were granted support in the county, representing a total investment volume of approximately HUF 4,000 billion . In addition to creating 22,000 new jobs, the investments supported through the Competitiveness Enhancement Subsidy Program and the Factory Rescue Program have helped preserve nearly 16,000 existing jobs.
As a result of these efforts, unemployment in Hajdú-Bihar has dropped from 12.6% in 2014 to 5.5%, while industrial production volume reached 1,240 billion forints between January and September of last year, compared to 721 billion forints for the entire year of 2014.
Another important milestone for the region is the handover of two new production halls and six fully serviced industrial plots spanning 1.4 hectares at the Báránd Industrial Park. For the village, home to just over 2,000 residents, this development marks a significant step forward, as was emphasized at the inauguration event.
István Joó, Government Commissioner for Investment Promotion and Implementation of Large FDI Projects at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and CEO of HIPA, emphasized during the inauguration ceremony that the Báránd Industrial Park is proof that any community can take its destiny into its own hands and turn challenges into opportunities:
As part of the TOP Plus initiative, facilities have been constructed to enable service- and production-oriented businesses to establish new sites in the area. The CEO underlined that this project represents an investment-promotion development that provides a long-term base for new and expanding enterprises, creating new job opportunities for local and regional residents."Significant developments are being realized in the region, but this doesn’t mean the work is done. In the future, we must focus on ensuring that smaller settlements also benefit from the arrival of large corporations by improving industrial parks, infrastructure, and vocational training,"
"It doesn’t matter whether we are talking about small settlements and small businesses or large cities and multinational giants like BYD or BMW — the principles of economic development and investment promotion remain the same at all levels. Our agency's key mission is to attract cutting-edge technologies to Hungary, but we are equally committed to supporting Hungarian small, medium, and large enterprises that aim to grow."
During his speech, the CEO pointed out that 2024 was a record-breaking year, with an unprecedented number of Hungarian-owned investments supported through the country’s investment promotion framework. Altogether, these projects represent HUF 251 billion in investments, complemented by HUF 48 billion in government funding. He highlighted that Báránd and the surrounding area are equipped to assist Hungarian SMEs and larger businesses in their growth efforts.
The second phase of the industrial park’s development has also welcomed a company focused on the distribution of apicultural products.
