The completion of the first phase of LEGO’s latest plant expansion was celebrated in a ceremony at its Nyíregyháza site. As a result of the project, the company’s production capacities will surge significantly following a EUR 148 million investment. The project is to create jobs for 250 and simultaneously add strategic weight to the Hungarian operation of the company.

LEGO’s first production unit in Nyíregyháza was completed back in 2008, and ever since a series of investments have been driving constant growth. The highly automated Hungarian plant is one of the total five facilities of the Danish corporate behemoth all over the world that covers the entire manufacturing process from moulding to decoration to packaging.

LEGO Manufacturing Kft. will be able to count on an extra production area of 72,000 square meters that includes the area of packaging and manual storage as well as the moulding plant. The total space available for manufacturing has therefore gone up to 232,000 square meters.

The number of moulding machines will increase by 386; besides, 13 new packaging lines will be installed. The new state-of-the-art shells of the factory are scheduled to be fully completed by 2023.

As Carsten Rasmussen, Lego Group’s Chief Operations Officer pointed out, while they continue to invest in expanding capacity and adding new sites across their manufacturing network, they remain committed to Nyíregyháza.
