Leading British Automotive Supplier Has Set Up A Site In Hungary With A Large-Scale Development

The British company GKN has invested EUR 142.7 million in a new site in Felsőzsolca which development will create 1,500 jobs. The leading automotive supplier intends to serve the regional hubs of TIER1 companies with the newly created capacity.

Based in the UK, GKN has interests in 20 countries around the world, with a total of 51 manufacturing bases and 6 technology centres. The company is a leading supplier of automotive powertrains, with 90% of the world's car manufacturers using its products.

The company has set up a new production unit in Felsőzsolca, with an investment of EUR 142.7 million, to serve BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Suzuki and Volkswagen plants in the region.

The main profile of the site in Felsőzsolca is the production of half-shafts, a key component in the company's product portfolio, for both internal combustion engines and electric drive systems. In 2023, 230,000 half-shafts will be produced, while the final capacity planned for 2025 will allow the production of 3 million units.

In the first phase of the investment, a 29,000 square metre complex of buildings has been constructed, including a production and logistics hall, an engineering centre and an office building, and an additional building unit is under construction. This will cover a total area of 60,000 square metres, creating 200 jobs this year and 1,500 by the end of 2026.
