New Investment Puts Nyírség on the Map of the Beauty Industry

Unilever's Nyírbátor operation is set to be expanded by a beauty care unit, which will produce 150 million bottles of deodorants a year from globally recognized brands.
The EUR 75 million investment of Unilever Hungary Kft. launches the construction of a new base for the aerosol product category, which is one of the most dynamically expanding business lines of the corporate group.
The consumer goods giant, known for its iconic brands, has been successfully operating its household chemicals production facility in Nyírbátor for years, supplying the European market, and as the next step it will expand the plant in Eastern Hungary by one of the largest deodorant factories in its global network.
The new unit, next door to the plant which supplies products including Domestos and Flóraszept, is scheduled to start manufacturing Axe, Rexona and Dove deodorants in 2026, using state-of-the-art automated technologies. It will also be used to package and store the products. 92% of the output will serve export markets. The investment creates almost 100 jobs.
In quest for sustainability and energy independence a five-hectare solar farm will also be built.
With 128,000 employees worldwide, Unilever is a major player in beauty and personal care, household chemicals, food and ice cream, with sales in 190 countries and a turnover of EUR 59.6 billion last year.
Unilever entered the Hungarian market in the first half of the 20th Century, and after a forced hiatus of four decades, it set up shop again in 1991, and has invested EUR 300 million since then.
Unilever Hungary Kft. employs around 1300 people. In addition to Nyírbátor, the company also operates a production facility in Veszprém, supplying the domestic, European and overseas markets with products of the Magnum ice cream brand. The Hungarian subsidiary also has a regional management role as a centre for management operations in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, thus it is responsible for serving around 20 million consumers.
