Rehau expands in Hungary with a second plant

The foundation stone has been laid for the latest Hungarian production unit of Rehau in Újhartyán, as part of its international expansion strategy. The market leading Swiss-based automotive supplier, which is specialized in polymer solutions, will have its plant established through an investment of EUR 150 million, making it the most modern in the company's global network. The plant in Újhartyán will create over 700 jobs to manufacture varnished external components for the car industry. In the framework of the stone-laying ceremony, a strategic cooperation agreement was concluded between the company heads and Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on behalf of the Hungarian Government.

With its seven decades of expertise, Rehau has become a top supplier of polymer-based system solutions for the building and automotive industry, and for a number of other sectors as well. Its product portfolio covers, among others, closing and curtain wall systems, conventional and renewable energy based heating-cooling systems, water and other pipeline systems, industrial pipelines and district heating systems. Today the Swiss-based company is present on five continents, in over 50 countries, with more than 180 establishments. In 2017 the company group recorded a turnover of over EUR 3.5 billion, giving work to 20,000 employees worldwide.

Rehau has had a sales office in Hungary for 25 years, while in its plant in Győr with over 400 colleagues focus on the production of plastic goods. In parallel with the investment in Újhartyán, developments started in Győr at an amount of EUR 10 million, which are expected to lead to larger capacity and the creation of an additional 100 jobs in the automotive district in the city.

The Swiss-based company supported the opening of a second plant in Hungary in its decision at the beginning of 2018, as part of its international expansion strategy. In the framework of an investment of EUR 150 million, Rehau's new production unit will be built in Újhartyán in the next two years to manufacture, among others, varnished plastic bumpers and spoilers for the car industry. The site covers an area of around 400,000 square metres, from which the plant will take up almost 63,000 square metres. It will give home to a vast injection moulding hall and an assembly hall, alongside an ultramodern and environment-friendly varnishing hall.

In 2018 Rehau become the second strategic partner of the Hungarian Government, while among the Swiss-based companies it is the fourth. It takes the 78th place on the list of all strategic partners of Hungary, who provide work to as many as 175,000 people altogether.

Owing to the constantly improving figures of the past years, the production output of the Hungarian automotive sector surpassed HUF 8,000 billion in 2017, which equals 28.7% of the total output of the processing industry. The international competitiveness of the products and services rendered is clearly shown by the export activities that were accountable for 92% of last year's production.
