Schaeffler Savaria will broaden its portfolio in Szombathely by building a development centre manufacturing and developing components for electric drive systems. The German automotive supplier is improving its production base by EUR 70 million, which leads to the creation of 150 new workplaces.
The global automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler Group stands for quality, outstanding technology solutions, and exceptionally innovative spirit in developing and manufacturing high-precision components and systems in engine, transmission, and chassis applications; rolling and plain bearing solutions for a large number of industrial applications. The family-owned German company has approximately 170 locations in over 50 countries with about 70 manufacturing locations and 20 research and development facilities with over 8.000 employees. The strength of the company group is indicated by the fact, that it managed to secure revenues of over EUR 14 billion in 2018 and that it employs about 89.000 employees worldwide.
Schaeffler Savaria (previously known as LUK) has been engaged in manufacturing clutches for passenger and agricultural vehicles for 20 years, employing over 3,320 people in Szombathely. The importance of the Hungarian location is well represented by the figure that every tenth car, in average, is equipped with a LUK clutch manufactured in Szombathely.
The second plant in Szombathely will enable the development and manufacturing of components for electric drivetrain systems in the current greenfield investment of over EUR 70 million, at the same time creating 150 new workplaces.
Electromobility – in addition to autonomous driving technologies – is the prevailing development direction of the future, moreover, the present of the automotive industry; therefore, the investment of Schaeffler Savaria is not only an imperative milestone of the present history, but also the future of Hungarian vehicle production, since on top of manufacturing, it also brings development activity to Hungary.
