Vitesco Technologies, which was formed by the transformation of the Powertrain division of Continental, established a 7,000 sqm automotive-electronics manufacturing plant in Debrecen with a greenfield investment. With the implementation of the project of more than EUR 116.6 million creating 450 new jobs and applying Industry 4.0 solutions, a new and unique production process for transmission control units is to be launched in Debrecen among the first of Vitesco Technologies' factories.
In the future, automotive electronics and transmission control sensors will be manufactured at a 7,000 sqm plant in Debrecen, equipped with self-guided robots and smart systems. Vitesco is able to produce components for all propulsion systems – from fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids to electrified internal combustion engines.
The first major production in Debrecen will be the transmission control unit made with overmoulding technology. Compared to conventional devices, they are not only lighter and more stable, but require significantly less steps in production. This is due to the overmoulding technology. During this process, the electronic components traditionally arranged on a printed circuit board are completely embedded in plastic. Vitesco Technologies uses new types of high-precision moulding processes and new particularly resistant plastics for this.
In addition to electronic control systems, the production plant in Debrecen also covers many other areas of electromobility and electrification, including 48 Volt belt starter generators used for mild hybrids.
The company has been working with the University of Debrecen in the field of electrical, mechanical and mechatronic engineering training since 2019, and they also collaborate with the Vocational Training Centre in Debrecen.
