As member of the Lasselsberger group, tile maker Zalakerámia is building a new production plant and logistics centre in Romhány under a capacity expansion investment project. As a result of its partially greenfield investment, the company will have the capacity to produce large-size floor and wall tiles, besides the already existing products, by relying on Industry 4.0 solutions. With this investment of more than EUR 61 million, the number of jobs is expected to more than double.

Zalakerámia Zrt, which is the largest tile maker in Hungary, is starting a capacity expansion investment on its site in Romhány, Nógrád County. The establishment of its new floor and wall tile producing plant, coupled with the modernisation of the currently available technology and the building of a new logistics centre, will enable the company to manufacture large-size floor and wall tiles, going beyond its present product portfolio.

The new production and logistics units will cover an area of 100 000 sq metres, and the investment is envisaged to lead to an increased headcount, from 140 to 350 people. The investment, which is planned to be implemented until 31 December 2025, will contribute to the Hungarian plant's strengthened role in the region in terms of the Hungarian, Romanian, Slovak markets. Thus, the export share, which is currently standing at around 8%, is expected to grow to as high as 32–35% in the future.

In order to provide for the availability of the appropriate workforce, the company is also outlining the establishment of an education centre in Romhány. This will serve as a training site for accredited courses in a set of professions related to ceramics and tiles, building on Zalakerámia's 70 years of expertise and the opportunities within the company group.
