As has been announced last year, the foundation stone-laying marks the official beginning of the EUR 255 million investment of Turkish-owned Şişecam Glasspackaging Hungary Kft. in Kaposvár where the first European glass-packaging facility of the company will be built that is to create 329 new jobs.

Having been operating for 35 years, Şişecam is one of Turkey’s most traditional corporate groups of which glass-packaging operation made the company the second biggest glassware producer in the world, whereas it ranks fifth in terms of glass-packaging material and flat glass manufacturing globally.

The investment should help the company to sell products on domestic and European markets, mainly in the food sector, namely in the wine and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages segments. The plant with two furnaces will have an annual capacity of 330,000 tons of packaging glass.

The European market accounts for a quarter of the total global glass packaging market. This fact offers major opportunities for the rapid development of the industry and for the expansion of our company's current production footprint. Şişecam's positive experience in Hungary to date played a major role in prioritizing the country while planning our glass packaging production facility investment in Europe,

said Şişecam President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kırman.
