The drivetrain of the first purely electric Audi is already produced in Győr - VIDEO REPORT

The series production of Audi electric motors has officially started in Hungary. The Audi plant in Győr, the largest engine manufacturing unit in the world, is now heading for a global leading position in the field of electric drive systems, too. The electric engines made here are produced for the Audi E-tron SUV, to be launched shortly, the first purely electric model of the German premium car manufacturer. The current 400 e-motor manufacturing capacity has created 100 new jobs, planned to be increased to 130 by the end of the year.
With its manufacturing capacity of approximately two million pieces, Audi Hungaria Zrt., seated in Győr, is currently the world's largest motor production plant and, as a member of the Audi Group, the central motor supplier of the Audi and Volkswagen Concern. The models Audi A3 Limousine, A3 Cabriolet, Q3, and Audi TT Coupé and Audi TT Roadster are manufactured in Győr, as well as, from next year, the brand new Q4. Audi Hungaria has been supplying several aluminium body parts to brands of the Volkswagen concern since 2006. Audi Hungaria has long been one of the largest companies in Hungary in terms of revenue and also one of the largest exporters in the country. Currently, Audi Hungaria has 12,000 employees in Győr, indirectly providing employment for more than double that number, about 30,000 persons through suppliers.
Since its establishment, Audi Hungaria has produced more than 33 million engines, equalling to a power of 5.6 billion HP. Since 1998, the start of passenger car manufacturing, more than 1.1 million cars has rolled down the production lines in Győr. Lined up next to one another, the cars would reach from Győr to Dakar, the capital city of Senegal at the ocean. Besides electric motors, nine motor variants are currently produced in Győr, six with petrol, three with diesel, in the power range between 86 and 639 HP.
The electric drive systems are being made based on a new modular manufacturing concept in the 8,500 square-metre production hall for electric motors. To launch e-motor production, the company carried out a two-digit investment in EUR. The number of employees working in this new field is currently approximately 100. The first electric car drives of Audi Hungaria are produced for Audi E-tron, the first purely electric model of Audi, to be launched shortly. The employees of Audi Hungaria manufacture two different drive types for Audi E-tron because, in line with the traditions of quattro, the front and rear axles are both driven.
The installation of the innovative equipment required for e-motor manufacturing and the production islands facilitating modular production took about a year. The fields E-motor Development, Production Planning and Experimental Engine Production Centre established the required competencies in close cooperation. The current daily capacity allows the production of about 400 electric drives, which can be increased gradually. At the moment, the new field employs approximately 100 associates, to be increased to 130 by the end of the year. Production takes place in a one-shift work system, but three shifts per day will soon be introduced.
